WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW:

Raising the Barr Fundraiser- Weekly loose change collection in homerooms....Thermometers in Lobby with progress and so far well received.  Would like to continue through the new year.

Handbag BINGO-- February 9th at Greek Church

SmashBurger Event-- January 15th

WHAT’S COMING UP:

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

 October 30-November 4....Scholastic Book Fair was run beautifully by Dena Demersky.  Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers.  Wimpy Kid/B/O books came in today.  We donated $10 in Scholastic Bucks to 6 teachers for perfect attendance during the months of Sept. and Oct. ... Mrs. Dempsey, Mrs. Travaligno, Ms. Laurenzano, Ms. Rife, Mrs. Campanella and Mr. MacRobbie were the winners.

 November 6th was the picture make-up date and Grade 8 “2018” pic.  Last of the picture proofs were sent home today and we will no longer accept them in a couple of weeks.

 WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW:

*SPIRIT WEAR- New online vendor...BARRSPIRITWEAR.COM   Sales so far over $3,000.  

Technology Department (Mr. Brian Perry) requested $220 in clock parts for his program.  

Mr. Nicky Program....Deluxe version requested for this year....$1,700 for 2 days of workshops and 1 assembly for grade 6

MAXIMUM FIT CLUB...program for all grades...incorporate into PE curriculum...discovered at Regional Mtg.

GAME SHOW ASSEMBLY....another discovery from the Regional Mtg.  Game Show Style Event...Day & Eve in March 2018

 
WHAT’S COMING UP:

Pick a Date for WOODY’s BBQ restaurant fundraiser....met manager and tried it out.  Delicious!

Vendor Knight- Friday, December 1st at Barr from 6:30-9:30pm.  Vendor Applications being accepted! 

Pocketbook BINGO- February 9th at Greek Church....larger venue

PRINCIPALS’ REPORTS

Anne Chen:

Grade 3-8 ELA/Math assessments ‘paper based’

*Dates for tests: ELA: 4/11-12  and  Math- 5/1-5/2

*reduced from 3 to 2 days

*all questions developed by NYS teachers

*untimed

*2nd year with fewer questions

*no official evaluation consequences for educators

*helps to guide instruction

*look at results in order to confirm plans for upcoming year along with all other data such as AIMS Web, end of year modular assessments, etc…


Walk-Out 3/14:

District decision- teachers helped  to communicate MS level of participation that was JUST limited to wearing orange- students will not be allowed to walk out

HS: voluntary participation was for students


Alarms are being put on doors in HS (based on funding, will trickle down to MS)


Field Day: 5/11-

alternate date is 5/18 (change in format)

PE dept went out to see what neighboring districts are doing (even in NJ)

Format is more engaging for all students

Run like Miller/HV with stations with more opportunities for involvement

color team (not by homeroom) Mrs. Chen will announce the colors when they are finalized

TEACHER REPRESENTATIVE

Vinny Garrison: Technology/Robotics/Nanuet News

5th grade: February: had 8th grade book buddies, celebrated Feb Rare Disease Day posters were everywhere -created bulletin board- raised money by wearing jeans,  raised over $1,000 in the MS,

6th Grade: will be making certificates for Meals on Wheels

7th: Field trip 3/16 Health and Fitness/Roller Skating at the Castle (bring own lunch and wear socks), 3/29: Westward Movement

8th: Skate trip rescheduled for 3/21

Nanuet News: video production class 14, 7th graders - exciting! (once every 3 weeks) posted on website (also afterschool program is involved)


PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

Speaker for Drug Prevention  (Ty Sells) the board is torn about how to handle who to spend on and what speaker to go with- Chris Herren is the other speaker on the table (www.ahoopdream.com)

BNL School Pictures: photography (Elementary is considering them and asked if we would like to see what they have to offer)

As a thank you for Handbag Bingo Pahedra designed a BEAUTIFUL Barr PTA Banner for us!

Information was handed out a value proposition and colored ‘yearbook’ sample

Information - should we decide to go with Lifetouch:

*Lifetouch does ALL photography

*The company will be Merging with Shutterfly- and online ordering will be done end of 2018

*outdoor environmental pics were shown (pseudo backgrounds that look realistic)

*email blast from company will be sent to families as a reminder with a smartlink for families to chose backgrounds

*You can wait 2 weeks after photo date for a proof for you to go online to order your select photos

*One day of pics- they take care of all the marketing and finances

*retake and absentee day will be provided

*Yearbook: they deliver a disc with all images to yearbook

*Online Portal-all data is uploaded for administration (all NYS regulations apply)

*Family Day is available - district picks a day - photographer from 9-4 (time slots would be available)

*K-12 themed banners are made as a service for us- no charge for retirements/special events, etc..

*Faculty receives photos no charge

*Memory Mission: company goes  to DR to build schools

*“Safety Card” missing and exploited children.. your child’s photo would be uploaded to news instantly called SmileSafe
